11.28.2007 Urban Tree Planting in Comval Province
In line with the Green Philippines Program (GPP) of President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo, the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR)-XI conducted another tree planting activity under the Urban Thematic (Ecosystem) Area at Tuburan, Mawab, Compostela Valley Province last November 7, 2007.
During the tree planting activity, a total of 1,025 seedlings of various fruit trees such as Lanzones (200), Durian (200) and Marang (625) were planted within the two hectares of the total 7.4 hectare-project area at 1001st Infantry Brigade, Tuboran, Mawab, Comval Province. The launching was participated in by the DENR-PENRO and CENRO personnel, Local Government Units (LGUs), Non-Government Organizations (NGOs), National Government Agencies (NGAs), the Academe, Religious Sects and Private Firms. The DENR-XI aims to plant 1.4 million trees for the GPP within the region. Out of this, 38,364 seedlings will be planted within the urban parks, green campuses, camps and subdivisions. GPP aims to mitigate climate change, ensure water supply security, conserve biodiversity, establish agro-forestry, provide livelihood opportunities, sustain supply of forest-based raw materials and production of alternative source of fuels.
