MOAs for "Adopt-A-Mojon" Program signed

In line with the “Adopt-a-Mojon” program, the Regional Public Affairs Office (RPAO-XI) facilitated the signing of three Memorandum of Agreements (MOAs) specifically with the Barangay Captains of Pangyan, Calinan District, Davao City and Barangay Bobongon, Sto. Tomas, Davao del Norte as well as with the Principal of Tugbok Central Elementary School, Tugbok District, Davao City.

The MOA is a proof that the Local Government Units (LGUs) as signatories agreed to be the adopters of the nationwide network of geodetic control points, physically marked by the mojons which are established under the Philippine Reference System (PRS92). Believing in their capabilities and their proximity to the Mojons, the LGUs are tasked to protect the geodetic control points from destruction, maintain their physical condition and advocate their significance to land administration.

As primary implementers of PRS92, the Department of Environment and Natural Resources through the Lands management Service (LMS) will conduct periodic inventory and recovery of geodetic control points and other reference points; provide official list, locations, and maps of the geodetic control points for adoption; design the appropriate protection measures for the geodetic control points and supervise construction; provide the guidelines for the protection and maintenance of the geodetic control points; extend technical assistance; and, conduct an annual evaluation of the signed MOAs.

The “Adopt-a-Mojon” program aims to enlist the participation of the LGUs, the People’s Organizations (POs), and the general public in the establishment and the preservation of the PRS92 geodetic control points to service the geo-referencing needs of the geodetic surveying community at all times. PRS 92 is the basic reference system for all surveying and mapping activities in the country pursuant to Executive Order (EO) Number 45, series of 1993 as amended by EO No. 280, series of 2000 and EO No. 321, series of 2004.
