Tree Planting in COMVAL Province

The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR)-XI recently conducted another tree planting activity under the Agro-forestry and Fruit Tree thematic (Ecosystem) area at Barangay Linoan, Montevista, Compostela Valley Province. This activity is in line with the Green Philippine Program (GPP).

DENR-XI aims to plant 1.4 million trees for the GPP within the region. Out of this, 782,875 seedlings will be planted within the 7.80 hectares of land under the Agro-forestry and Fruit Tree Thematic area.

With the theme “No Leaf, No Life, New Leaf, New Life”, a total number of 550 various fruit and forest trees like Lanzones, Durian, Rambutan, Pomelo, Rubber and Falcatta were planted in Barangay Linoan within the one-hectare portion of titled property owned by a certain Bienvenido Mandin. This portion, which is part of the nine hectare land of Mandin, will later on be donated to the Local Government Unit (LGU) of Montevista.

Barangay Linoan is one of the promising sites identified by the Community Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO) of Monkayo for agro-forestry development. A Small Water Impounding Project (SWIP) is within the area to provide irrigation for rice paddies on the adjoining lowland areas managed by the Linoan Agricultural Settlers Development Association (LASDA).
